This page describes how to use Actcast Writer on Windows.

Actcast Writer Setup #

Actcast Writer for Windows needs to be set up for the first time. In this section, we show the procedure.

  1. Launch the downloaded actcast-writer-setup.exe.

  2. If the following dialog is displayed, click More info

  3. Make sure the app name is the same as the one you downloaded and click Run anyway

  4. Read the license agreement and click I Agree.

  5. Then the installation will start. If it is successful, the setup is complete.
    • Installation does not require administrator privileges.

  6. When the setup is complete, actcast-writer will be added to the Start menu.
    • The software itself is located in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Programs\actcast-writer .
    • You can search actcast-writer on the start menu.

Using Actcast Writer #

This section describes the procedure to write data to the SD card using Actcast Writer.

  1. Enter required data according to the Writer screen. The details of each item can be found in config details
    1. Enter the Provisioning Token
    2. Enter the Hostname(Prefix)
    3. (When using Wi-Fi from the device) Set the Wi-Fi
    4. Select Country
    5. Click Advanced settings (if required).

  2. Select Target Drive you want to install.
    1. The SD card shown as Target Drive must be formatted. See supplement for the format method.
    2. If your SD card does not appear as an option, try the following:
      • Make sure that the SD card is recognized by your PC running the Writer.
      • Make sure the SD card is formatted correctly.

  3. Click Write button
    • When writing to the SD card starts, the screen below will be displayed.

  4. You see write success when the writing is successful.
    • Then you can remove the SD card.

(Supplement) SD card format method #

Learn how to format an SD card with standard Windows 10 features.

  1. Make sure that the unformatted SD card is recognized by Windows.
    • (Example: A USB card writer with an SD card inserted appears in the Explorer)
    • From now on, the drive of the SD card will be D

  2. Push Win + R to show input dialog. Then type diskmgmt.msc and press OK button.

  3. Operate Disk Management
    1. Confirm that the SD card is displayed as D
    2. Right-click on Unallocated part of the item.
    3. Click New Simple Volume

  4. New Simple Volume Wizard is displayed.
    1. Press the Next buttons until you reach Format Partition

  5. Set the Format this volume with the following settings:
    1. Change the item File system as FAT32
    2. Enter a desired character string for the Volume label (Now we enter ACTCAST as an example)

  6. After that, keep the default values and press Next button finally
  7. The format is successful if Disk Management is shown as the below.
